Handy Tip

Don't freak out!  I may have just used two terms in the headline of this post that sound foreign and scary to you: RSS and Feed Reader.  But trust me, if you're looking to enhance your blog reading pleasure, save time, and expand your online horizons, take a moment to learn about the glories of reading your favorite blogs in a Feed Reader and embrace this super fun, super easy technology.

First the definitions:

RSS – Really Simple Syndication

Feed Reader -  1. (formal definition) Also known as a news aggregator, a feed reader allows news content that is generated or provided from another source to be brought together and displayed.  Feed readers can be built into web browsers, website management systems, email software or as stand-alone applications.

2.(my definition) a personal webpage where you can read all your favorite blogs, see when they are updated, and click on them all from a single place.

Feed Readers come in many different flavors.  You may be familiar with their buttons you see all over the web…

Rss-buttons

Don't worry you don't have to know what all of these buttons mean.  You just have to choose one reader (I have been very happy with Google Reader), subscribe to it, and start adding your feeds.  Think of a reader as your own personal newsstand where you can read all your favorite magazines (blogs) for as long as you want.

But, you're asking, how do I subscribe?  How do I start adding RSS feeds?

Darren Rowse, the Problogger pioneer, has an excellent, easy to understand set of instructions.  So I am going to send you to his blog to get your reader and start adding subscriptions.  Oh, and please don't forget to add Dog Art Today!

P.S. Feel free contact me with any questions.

I know, Melissa. I felt the same way. But I was totally overwhelmed by the whole thing and didn’t know where to start to figure it out. Then, I found Darren at Problogger. he explained it so simply, I was up and running with my reader and my favorite blogs in minutes. Now, when I find a blog I like I immediately add it and know I will be back. Before, it was too much of a bother. My bookmarks were jammed and I just didn’t feel like dealing. So I really mean it when I say a Feed Reader can change your life. So glad I could help. And thanks, again, to Darren for making it possible.
    Have a great weekend too!
