The dogs on Peticotees dog art t-shirts don’t say a lot, but, just like real dogs they communicate their thoughts perfectly. These beautifully designed organic cotton Ts for men and women incorporate origami, shadow puppets, and emoticons, and celebrate the connections dogs have to each other and us.
Michael Vick is eligible to play football this Sunday when the Eagles meet the Kansas City Chiefs. Mark Maske at TheWashington Postdelves into the locker room drama. I will be interested to see if any anti-Vick T-shirts make the broadcast.
Hat tip to Andrea Lechner-Becker, PR/Marketing Coordinator for renowned dog artist Ron Burns, for sending me the above graffiti image from Yahoo Sports.
Another dog makes an appearance in Maraid's outstanding flickr matchbox label collection. This Czech beauty reads, "Remember – safety-matches don't belong in children's hands."
I thought this was a good fit for Back to School Day in Nevada County today. I always loved going back to school. But glad I'm not in class this morning. I am having a hard time putting two words together. I am going to try some right-brain stuff and see how that goes.
P.S. View my matchbox label t-shirts from Maraid's collection at my store.
Order a Valentine’s Day T-shirt for the dog lover in your life today. Cozier than roses and less cliche than candy. Cross this gift off your list and go celebrate Groundhog’s Day!

OK, first I need to start with my Dog Mom T-shirts that continue to be bestsellers. Seen here, the Boxer Mom women’s short sleeved T. I have many breeds and styles including sweatshirts, tank tops, and plus sizes. Email me to add your breed (no charge and no obligation.)
Jack Russell Skeledog T-shirt, cool and creepy, the best of both. From Skeledog’s Etsy Shop. Dachshund, Poodle, German Shepherd, Greyhound, Golden Retriever Skeledogs are also available.
The estate of Charley Harper, the renowned Minimal Realist animal artist, must have licensed his work to Old Navy. Three of his images, Bird, Dog and Frog, are available on t-shirts for babies and tots. The Dog reminds me of of Dog Art Today reader Jenn Dixon’s English Springer Spaniel named Patrick.
I discovered the Charley Harper T-shirts on Eleanor Grosh’s blog. She, too, is an amazing Minimal Realist artist. Visit her site for more gift ideas.
The I Heart Tripods T-shirt was originally designed to raise money for Lulu’s mom after Lulu lost her leg to cancer and bills piled up to $10,000. Now, having paid her debt, she donates to other Tripod dogs and owners in need. Cool shirt for a good cause available here. Via PupStyle.
"Sasha and Malia … I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the new White House." — President-elect Barack Obama, November 4, 2008.
Change has come to America. I am so proud. Congratulations to the Obama family. We can't wait to meet the first dog.

7:01 am update:
Thanks to my cousin, Clair, for letting me know that the Bidens are also getting a dog. As reported by Reuters:
Obama’s running mate, Joe Biden,
is also getting in on the act. He told reporters traveling with him
earlier that his wife had promised him a “big dog” if he got elected.
Jill Biden had taped pictures of different dogs on the back of the
seat in front of him on his campaign plane to inspire the candidate as
he criss-crossed the country in the final sprint to election day.
“Jill had said the only way you are getting a dog is if you are
president … we didn’t think about vice president,” said Biden. “She
said at least if you live in the White House you are home.”
He dropped out of the presidential race but when Obama asked him to
join the ticket, his wife Jill said if he did so she would let him have
the dog he wanted.
Read Clair's beautiful post about last night here.
7:16 am update: The Obamas join a long tradition of first families with dogs. Here is an excellent website dedicated to American Presidents and their dogs. Did you know George Washington had 10 hounds; Mopsey,
Taster, Cloe, Tipler, Forester, Captain, Lady Rover, Vulcan, Sweetlips and
Searcher. (Sweetlips! Hilarious!)
One more day! Darby, my Longhaired Dachshund, hopes for change. He hopes the polls are right and Barack Obama will be our next president. His mom hopes her hopes won't be dashed like the last two elections. Go vote! Go Obama!
Order a Darby Hope print from my Etsy shop. Or t-shirts, mugs, note cards, and journals from CafePress. Email me to create a hope poster for your dog.
I couldn’t find an image of a Pit Bull with lipstick. So instead I am presenting my idea of what Sarah Palin’s Christmas card might be. Although the dog really is not aggressive enough for her ilk.
Watching her last night was as terrifying as it was ugly.
Words I’ve heard to describe Sarah Palin’s speech: snarky, hideous, grand slam, torpedo, from hell, Tracy Flick, Eve, “Stay classy, San Diego”, heat seeking missile, snide, mocking, derisive, condescending, and cutthroat.
Interesting article in the Huffington Post about two focus groups, unmarried and married women Hillary Clinton supporters, responding to Sarah Palin’s speech. Both groups said she executed it very well, but were not impressed with her vitriol.
“In both groups, narrow majorities said they held a more negative view of Palin after her speech.”
Informative links about who Sarah Palin really is:
Mudflats – blogger from Alaska explains everything and anything you wanted to know about AK politics. Jnail blog – citizen journalist investigating all of Sarah Palin’s scandals, especially Waterbreak Gate. 1080 KUDO – Alaskan progressive (yes there is such a creature) talk readio. Hear what people who know her really think. Warning: very addictive.
Christmas card image sent to me by Rebecca Collins (with out the political commentary).
P.S. If you find a Pit Bull with lipsitck image please send it to me.
P.P.S. I would love to have my own focus group here. Let me know what you thought of Sarah Palin’s speech in the comments section.
8:38 am update: My friend Tom says that this card is too cute to come from Sarah Palin. Here are some more images to consider via flickr.
Willy, founder of Porties for Obama, by Lee Anderson
Tonight Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic Party's nomination for President. That means one thing; his girls, Malia and Sasha, are one step closer to being dog owners. That was the deal. He could run for President. And win or lose, they could get a dog.
What's missing from this picture?
There has been rampant campaigning throughout the dog world as to which dog the Obamas should chose. The AKC recommended five breeds based on the family's hypoallergenic needs, with the Poodle being voted as the number one canine candidate for them.
Best Friends Animal Rescue has circulated a petition for the (hopefully) first family to choose a shelter dog.
And then there is Porties for Obama, spearheaded by Willy (above) and his mom Buffy Nicolas of Alexandria, VA, a fundraising effort to see Senator Obama elected and choose a Portuguese Water Dog as first dog.
Ted Kennedy and his Portie, Splash. Globe Photo / Chris Hartlove.
A political Portie would follow in the tradition of Senator Ted Kennedy's PWD named Splash who not only follows him around Capitol Hill, but also wrote a children's book about politics called My Senator and Me.
Splash was also featured along with the Kennedys' other Portie named Sunny in the tribute video at the Democratic convention on Monday night.
I confess, when I saw the video my first reaction was worry that the dogs were out on the sailboat without life jackets. I didn't realize they were Portuguese *Water* Dogs, originally bred to herd fish and swim between boats off the coast of Portugal.
We'll see if Senator Obama follows in the Massachusetts's Senator's footsteps. Or if he lets the girls decide. My instincts tell me, they might pick something smaller and cuddlier like the Bichon Frise, also on the AKC list. But if they're looking for a Portie, also a cute dog in a super sporty way, they should definitely contact Willy and Buffy, Obama's and Portuguese Water Dogs' biggest fans.
To donate to Porties for Obama send a check made out to "Obama for America" to:
Willy Nicolas 11676 Mediterranean Ct. Reston, Va. 20190
Also, Buffy and Willy have organized a Portie Cruise tonight, August 28, 2008, 7pm leaving from the dock in Olde Towne Alexandria. Tickets are $14. Dogs are free. All all welcome regardless of political persuasion. If you're in the area contact Buffy for more information.
P.S. Here is some Portie gear that would be perfect for the next cruise.
