  • Keith Haring’s Dogs

    Keith_haring_dog_1

Keith Haring (1958-1990), the quintessential Pop artist who stamped his style all over Manhattan in the 80s, would have turned 50 this year.  Haring's work is lauded for the "primacy of the line" as well as his devotion to the universal concepts of birth, death, love, sex and war.

Looking at his images on the excellent Keith Haring website, I would have to add dogs to that list as there are 86 dog art works there.  It was impossible for me to choose my favorite, but here are some picks to enjoy.  Click on images for larger view.

To me, Keith Haring represented everything that was cool and possible about the 1980s before he came to embody the tragedy of AIDS that decimated the arts community in the second half of the decade.  Sadly he died at age 31 in 1990.

But even after his diagnosis in 1988, he used his talent to connect with people, bring awareness to the disease, and establish the Keith Haring Foundation to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organizations and children’s programs.  Brilliant!

To own your own Keith Haring poster, decal, pin, t-shirt or toy and see many more fabulous dogs visit his Pop Shop.

There is also a compilation book called Dogs that includes Haring's dog art work and personal writings on life, children and friendship.

  • Mother’s Day T-shirts For Dog Lovers

    Labradoodle_t_shirt
My dog mom t-shirts, sweatshirts, and tank tops continue to be a Mother’s Day top seller, which is good because I didn’t have time to create a new design this year. I’ve been completely buried finishing The Pearls of The Stoneman screenplay I’ve been working on for my friend Ben Glass. I’m happy to report it’s done! Now on to financing…I’ll keep you posted.

Regarding the mom dog t-shirts, if you don’t see your breed (or mixed breed) I will be happy to add it. Please contact me before May 1. Mother’s Day is May 11.

  • Laika Gets A Statue

    Laikamonument

A lovely tribute, especially the red carnations at her feet.  Read more about this new Russian monument to the  space dog, Laika, at Telstar Logistics’ blog, a funny, space-y, clever blog that USA Today hails for its "higher-than-average percentage of stuff that [hasn’t been] seen anywhere else."

Via Boing Boing — a directory of wonderful things.

And don’t forget about my own tribute to Laika — my T-shirts — available here and here.

  • St. Patrick’s Day Vintage Dog Art T-Shirts & Greeting Cards

    St_patricks_day_card

With a name like Moira McLaughlin it’s never too early to gear up for St. Patrick’s Day. Here are some new fun items I just made to help you celebrate this year. I found this vintage photograph of Irish worker Terry McKune, circa 1915-1920, and his little dog in the Library of Congress archives. Little is known about the man or the photo, but I simply love it!

A package of 10 St. Patrick’s Day greeting cards (above). Inside reads, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” in an emerald green Celtic font.

I think it came out cool on T-shirts too:

    St_paricks_t_shirt_ringer
St. Patrick’s Day men’s ringer T-shirt. My mother always said, “A true Irishman doesn’t need to wear green.”

    St_patricks_t_shirt_olive
If you do need to wear your Irish on your sleeve, the military green St. Patrick’s Day T-shirt might be right for you.

    St_patricks_t_shirt_blk
I’m all Irish, so I’m going with this longsleeved black St. Patrick’s Day T-shirt and will sport a strapping Irish laborer on my chest — oops — that came out wrong — or maybe not ; )

    St_patricks_t_shirt_green
The mint green short sleeved t-shirt is a great option too. Bars do get hot when you’re drinking all day.

  • Barack Obama is Super!

    Obama_super_t_shirt

    South Carolina Primary Resusts:

    Barack Obama: 55%
    Hillary Clinton: 27%
    John Edwards: 18%

    What a night!

Read Caroline Kennedy’s eloquent and moving endorsement of Senator Obama, “A President Like My Father,” in today’s New York Times.

    Excerpt:

“I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved.

I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans.”

Barack is Super T-shirts, including men, women, and children’s sizes, designed by my sister Sheila Cameron, available at her online store.

  • German Shepherd Gifts

German Shepherds are the 3rd most popular dog breed in the U.S. This surprises me since I don’t know anyone who owns a German Shepherd (like how it’s all about me). But I trust the American Kennel Club’s statistics. And I trust that the German Shepherd owners are out there looking for Christmas gifts. So here are my picks:

    German_shepherd_painting

Anne & Florent oil painting by Dog Art Today favorite Rachelle Oatman. Available through Dog Art Dealer Jaynie Milligan Spector. Obviously a mixed marriage.

    German_shepherd_ornament
Stunning White German Shepherd ornament. Made of porcelain, it comes with a red ribbon for tree hanging. From the White German Shepherd Store.

    Germanshepherdabsolute

German Shepherd wired sculpture from Green Piece Wire Art. Also available as a topiary, in case you want a German Shepherd to simply stay in your yard and look pretty.

    German_shepherd_t_shirt

A German Shepherd herds his flock of sheep on this darling long sleeved t-shirt. Available in lots of great sizes and styles from Karen Hocker Studios.

    Monks_new_skete

Experts say not to give a puppy as a Christmas gift. But it’s soooo fun! If you do it this year, be sure to include the “Bible” of dog training, The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete, who have been breeding German Shepherds for over 20 years. I used this book to train and understand (the Monks are big on understanding your dog, which I love) my Dachshund. I wonder if that’s why he thinks he’s a big dog?

    German_shepherd_fleece

Another great gift for a new puppy owner, a German Shepherd Men’s Fleece. You’ll need it to keep warm while you’re outside trying to understand why your dog won’t do her business. You asked nicely.

    German_shepher_custom

Hand carved German Shepherd portrait by Michael John dePierro. Visit his Parts of a Larger World to custom order one of his sculptures of your pet. He does people too.
