New York Times Op-Ed: My Dog Days

Darbyporchblog

Darby, my Longhaired Dachshund, is at the vet today. He needed some x-rays due to a possible sinus or tooth infection. I’m sure he’ll be fine, but I always get emotional leaving him there all day.

Then, I read Arthur Phillips beautiful NYT Op-Ed piece, My Dog Days, and well…I had a little cry. It so perfectly captures the magic and sorrow of loving a dog, and then, loving another dog. (Also realized he is one of my favorite authors. His 2002 novel Prague is brilliant. Must check out his new book Angelica.) I’ll keep you posted.

6.12.07 Update: Darby is fine. No tumor or infection, just a severe allergy (we think.) He’s on antibiotics and prednisone and seems improved. Thanks Clair, Deb, Linda, and Becca for your thoughtful comments 🙂

This was SUCH a well written article! I also cried – and then forwarded the piece to all of my “dog-friends”.

Moira, I hope Darby is ok. Do you get to bring him home today? I used to hate leaving Abby at the Vet because she was so sensitive. It broke my heart.
Sending lots of love and healing to you and sweet Darby.xo

I am so glad Darby is ok. I am the same way about leaving them …I just hate it.
