My New Pup Tyler Aloysius McLaughlin

Tyler Aloysius McLaughlin

My new pup, a six-month old Schnauzer/Terrier mix, and I found each other on Monday.  On Tuesday, he had emergency surgery for an infected wound.  He is on the mend.  And I am in love.  More soon about the whole story, once he is healed.

There are a few more photos on my Facebook page.

I can’t believe I switched teams, Carson, Joey and Rowdy. I had my name in every Doxie Rescue in California. Then, I saw this guy and my whole world changed. His sweet face reminds me a bit of Rowdy and my mom’s Wirehaired Dachshund named Rhett. When he walks he puts his nose to the ground, so I think he might have some hound in him too. He looks like a tall Doxie or a Miniature Irish Wolfhound mixed with a Terrier. He’s my dog.

Melissa – You, in many ways gave me the courage to start looking. And just that act of starting led me to him. Thank you so much for your words of wisdom and joyful spirit in finding a new love while cherishing a past love. I didnt think it was possible. But I tried it anyway. And it is.

Yeah – I’m a little surprised you switched teams too! That’s OK though – you never know what or who you’re going to fall in love with – and he is just beautiful. I won’t tease you with the crazy dachshund people sayings like “if it’s not a Dachshund, it’s just a dog.” OK, just that one time. 🙂 I saw a Portugese Water Dog yesterday that had black and white colorings and he reminded me of your new guy. Congrats again.

I agree. And in a way, since my life has changed, and I needed a dog more than a Dachshund. I am joining a farm co-op and hiking more. And my Doxie, an many I know, are more cerebral, willful, intellectual, and challenging than is practical for me now. Also, Darby got foxtails up his nose 3 times in 2 years. Their low-rider design is challenging in the country.
The hardest part was accepting this and not feeling disloyal to my beloved Darby. What I was looking for was a tall doxie. Tyler is pretty close.
Also, hes been having to wear t-shirts because of a wound. When he wears my Obama 2008 t-shirt, he looks like a mini-Bo.

Oh Moira – he’s adorable. I cried when I read that you’d found him. So happy for you but even more happy for Tyler. To be loved is the greatest thing in the world, and it sounds like he hasn’t had a lot of that in his life so far. Can’t wait to hear more about him.
