Happy 4th of July!

Since I’m taking tomorrow off, I’m wishing you all a happy 4th of July today.

And because dogs and fireworks don’t go together, I’m featuring Sabrina Helas’s beautiful and haunting Dog House photo.  I know it doesn’t have the “rah rah” patriotism of a splashy red, white, and blue image, but I am drawn to it in a John-Cougar-Mellencamp-Ain’t-That-America kind of way.  And, of course, the neon Dachshund is awesome.

Sabrina is a super talented L.A. pet photographer whom I’ve featured here before.  She has recently expanded into maternity photography and children under 6.  See her dogs here and her mommies and kids here. 

Also, here are some tips to calm dogs’ fears during fireworks.

    Thanks so much Moira!
    This picture was taken last February in Albuquerque New Mexico.
    I try to visit the “enchanted state” at-least once a year.
    It is so beautiful to me. There are flat flat lands, beautiful architecture, the nicest people and a raw beauty
    everywhere you turn.
    This picture specifically was a little fast food stand and there were cars and people galore.
    When we drove by it I fell in love =)
    I asked my fiance to pull over cause I needed to take a picture. The food must have been good cause
    I had to wait 45 minutes for everyone to clear out so I could get this shot.
    The staff inside laughed at me while I was photographed their work place. To them it was a place they
    go to everyday, for me if a photo treasure!

    Thanks for sharing, Sabrina. Now I love the photo even more knowing it is a beloved hot spot. Like the perfect place to go after the fireworks tomorrow night. I’m glad you took the time to get it just right. It really is wonderful!

    Love this Moira…yes our pups need evacuation from the city on the 4th…although my old Izzy doesn’t hear much anymore so it’s not as bad. Last year we turned on a window air conditioner, the dishwasher and a popcorn popper to quell the sounds of the over zealous 4th of July revelers in my Chicago neighborhood.

    Awww, sweet Dudley. He must get that from his mother. She used to be afraid of fireworks too. Maybe he needs a lovely spice cake to calm his fears.
