I finished the June college of my Longhaired Dachshund calendar this morning. I have lots to tell you about how it came together, but not today.
Wishing you all the best in 2012.

I can’t believe no one has commented on this yet…. Moira, I think it is my favorite piece you’ve done and shared on this blog. it is so seamless, timeless, peacefull and introspective. I too have had a year of heartache and this image fills me with quiet optimism; the feeling of being able to look out at the wider world.
Luminous.
Well done! Have a good year (anyway, somehow).
Thank you so much Marianne. This is the first piece that I began when Darby was alive and finished after he died. I pictured it more purple. In fact I had no intention of using green. It just made its way in, giving it a sense of new growth, I guess, and as you say, optimism.
I am so sorry for your heartache and hope you are finding a way through. I am compiling a list of simple directives to handle grief if you would like to share any. Today for example I wrote one to myself worse is normal. I thought I would keep feeling a little better each day and it doesnt go that way. Finishing this piece means the end of working with my muse Darby as a physical presence, and reluctant model. I am devastated all over again.
I will be making prints of all these pieces available in the next few months, greeting cards too, and of course, the calendar. I will keep you posted when they will be available. Sending strength and connection as you head into the new year. Thanks for reaching out.

Darby in Paradise. Though I think he already experienced Paradise sharing life with you, Moira. It does seem to depict Darby as he is now- peacefully waiting for you.
There is something about the shape of a dog’s head from behind that is unbelievably endearing- and when it’s your dog you get to know that shape, and that silhouette becomes so familiar. I know I always fall in love with that view from behind, dog in front looking ahead with inquisitive, alert ears- alive with interest.
This was his spot on summer evenings. I still move his pillow there every day.

I cut out about 6 silhouettes of him before this one. they were all blue or white. I resisted green and it turned out to be the answer.
Yes, his ears always told me deer were around even if I couldnt see them at first. Never doubt a Dachshund.

This is stunning Moira. To me, Darby is looking out at the world from the security of home and you. Looks just like my Bodie. As Rob says, don’t scratch it Moira, let it heal. Much love x
Thanks, Leanne. I am trying not to scratch (or pick the scab). So hard. Still tears every day. Mornings are the worst.
I would love to meet your Bodie. Please send photo and a few sentences describing him or you or whatever you want and I will add him to my readers dogs photo album. Have you seen it?

I can also include a link to your website.
I am going to redesign my whole blog this year and want to try to move it to the front page or do something special with it. Every photo tells a story of devotion. Each one, really a work of art — even the snapshots. Dogs make everything filled with passion. Dont you think?

YES, re all the wonderful comments above! Especially the view for hope, Darby’s waiting for you, and the sweetness of one’s own dog’s head rear viewed. I took a picture of my Ollie’s sweet soft fragrant curly head the day before we had to let him go……..I treasure it and it brings that aspect of him back to me.
Moira, you blog has given me so much besides dog art! Many thanks.
