Michelle P. and Tristan B. are hosting Inspiration Rx: a remedy for blank walls, sparse reading lists, and creative ruts at Tristan's Besotted Brand Blog.

Last week's word prompt was "emergence."

Here is my submission:

Title: dox-ZEN

According Zen philosophy, "The mind is an endless chain of three processes; namely craving, acting, and discontentment."

Since Darby died two years ago, I've struggled to make art, especially of him.  The grief and falling short of perfection have been crippling.  Experimenting with sumi-e ink, this is my effort to act, and to accept discontentment.  And to crave to act again…

These are lovely Moira. I miss Darby being a part of your life too, nice to see him reappearing now and then.

Dear Moira, I also have not be able to make art since Ollie died in 2007. I so relate to your process here- you have captured all 3 elements you speak of in image #1- I think it is very beautiful. And then you deconstruct the images as one should deconstruct thought to meditate, arriving at final image where Darby is tired but cleansed and slightly hopeful….at least this is what I see. Taking these small steps is good (wish I could do so!).
I think of you and Darby and Tyler often, and send good thoughts of comfort and hope. xoE

Moira – these are such lovely sumi painings. They have a rich flow and you have captured the essence of your dear Darby. I know how difficult it is to do paintings of your very special dog. I still can’t bring myself to paint my sweet golden retriever, Sandy. She passed more than 6 years ago. She was one of those very special dogs who just captured my heart. She had been abandoned and it was my lucky day when we found each other. Keep going with these paintings – you are definitely onto something.
