beautiful painting. And done in natural light or lamp light from life, of an animal that doesn’t lay quietly in the same position for long. Lovely piece.

@Jane, thank you! Well, it’s just temporary on show. It’s a private collection of an originally Dutch couple who live in the States.

Thanks for the wonderful links, Heidi. I had never heard of Gerrit Dou or the van Otterloos. I love stories like this about slow, steady, and ultimately savvy collectors. I adore this painting too. It has such a contemporary lustrous feel. It is very special. Keep in touch if you go see it in person. Would love to hear a review.
