I never met Big Tommy, but I have been a longtime admirer of the artwork he inspired in Rebecca Lansdowne-Collins. Last night she said goodbye to her Scottie muse, whom she describes as "the most photogenic pup we ever had. The camera loved his big ears."
I am so sorry for your loss, Rebecca and Dan. I hope that each day becomes a little easier, and that soon these photos bring you more joy than heartache. Big Tommy was a lucky dog to be in a family with the talent to capture his essence so beautifully. Rest in peace, sweet boy.

Edith Wharton and her dogs
Apropos of yesterday's post about how a dog can impinge on creativity, Gilbert Alter-Gilbert has an incredibly comprehensive collection of authors and their animal muses at Will Schofield's blog, A Journey Round My Skull. This photo of Edith Wharton is my favorite. I recently read The Custom of the Country
by her and loved how contemporary and cutting is. I would describe it as "The Real Housewives of Late 19th Century New York City and Paris." I had never read anything by her before. Highly recommend.
Hat tip to Rebecca Collins of Art Dog Blog who sent me this story. I spent hours at A Journey Round My Skull, then I hated my blog and redesigned it, then I put it back the way it was. I felt very Jealous Curator spending time in Will Schofield's skull. But I appreciate the link, Rebecca. And I think your new works, especially your mosaics, are fantastic.

Mark your calendars to bid on this Dogs Rule Fat Book this Saturday, November 15th. The project was a collaboration of 13 dog artists (myself included) who each contributed an original work of art. Fabulous photographer and artist, Jill Beninato, who spearheaded the project, then bound the works together to create this one of a kind dog art book. All proceeds benefit a Place to Bark Animal Rescue.
