    Peace, Love & Dogs bracelet

Jennifer Fernandez of A Tail of Two has generously offered a 15% discount to Dog Art Today readers for any piece of jewelry purchased before February 14, 2011.  Jenn's jewelry is handmade of sterling silver, 14 karat gold, or a combination of both, and reflects her passion for dogs.  I like how she she combines hearts with a rugged style, creating looks that wear beautifully long after Valentine's Day is over.

And, I like that she has something if your Valentine is a man or a woman or even a pup.

Here are some of my picks…

  • Dog Collage Pendants from Black Dawg Studio

    Dog_collage_pendants

Wearable shadowboxes featuring vintage dog photographs from Black Dawg Studio's Etsy store.  So sweet and only $5.

"My little dog, a heartbeat at my feet." is a quote from Edith Wharton who is also responsible for this gem, "I don't know if I should care for a man who made life easy; I should want someone who made it interesting."  Hmmm, every woman's eternal paradox, no?

  • Sterling Silver Dog Art Jewelry by Pen Andrishok

    3_dog_golden_retriever_pin

Irish Setter in the Vines Pin

Pen Andrishok received her MFA from the University of Iowa and began her career creating conceptual art dealing with women and AIDS.  Along the way, she began rescuing Golden Retrievers.  Then, a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina decimated New Orleans, a starving Goldie named Mardi found his way to a rescue organization and ultimately Andrishok's home and her devotion to rescue dogs grew more profound.  Around the same time, Andrishok became interested in silversmithing and fell in love with it.  This year, she decided to combine her two passions, rescuing dogs and silversmithing, and and her dog art jewelry line, 3 Dog Lookout, was born.

I don't feature a lot of dog art jewelry because I usually find it too cutesy for my taste.  But Andrishok gives her pieces a sophistication and polish (in both senses of the word) that I adore.  She also works to keep her prices for the pendants under $100, incredibly reasonable for custom hand sawn and soldered sterling silver jewelry (the cuffs and pins are more).  And she sweetens the deal by donating 10% of sales to rescue dog organizations.  Beautiful art for a worthy cause.  Gorgeous!

  • Art from Ashes: New Jewelry and a Discount

    Art_from_ahses_1

    Companion Bracelet

Art from Ashes was the first company I ever featured in my Pet Memorial category.  Now, almost two years later, they are still the only company I have there.  There are many ways to memorialize our pets once they pass, but I think the handcrafted glass sculptures from Art from Ahses that incorporate our loved-one's ashes are exceptional.

Now, in response to their clients' requests, they have partnered with renowned glass artist Caitlin Burch to create a line of jewelry.  Again, they use a small amount of ash in each piece, and produce a one-of-a-kind keepsake that can be worn as "a personal and private expression of eternal love and companionship."  Lovely!

Although I don’t have any Miniature Schnauzer art in my DreamDogsArt store, I do have this Schnauzer mix collage (seen here on a coaster). It’s based on my sister Regan’s dog named Logan, who is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known. He’s a big hit with Schnauzer lovers too.
