Enjoy heartwarming illustrations from The Puppies of Pillow Land. This bed time story, which is due to be released next Christmas, invites the hearts and minds of both children and adults to consider our companions as spiritual creatures.

The Puppies of Pillow Land gently guides your child through the lands of fable and lore to produce a comforting story which is accompanied by its own snugly breed-related pillow.   The author and illustrator, Vanda Lavar, weaves a tale of wonder, love, and unfailing nighttime protection as The Puppies of Pillow Land guard the night for sleeping children.

The pillows are available now for $15, with the book soon to follow, along with other specialty gifts based on these lovable characters.  To order the pillows visit PillowLandPuppies.com.

There will be new breeds available as images are added weekly.  Additionally, each pillow has a slot located in the back panel in which to store “jammies.”

You may remember Vanda’s fabulous illustrations from Tucker’s Tale
, a book which recently made Laura Bush’s reading list.  Tucker’s Tale is the story of a rescued Cocker Spaniel and was written by noted Maine author, Christopher Walsh.  Ms. Lavar and Mr. Walsh donated all of their profits from this book to rescue causes.

  • Chicken Soup for the Soul: Contest Winners!

    Angel Dane by Rachel Tyler

I am pleased to announce the winners of of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Dogs We Love are:

    Linda Belthius for this response…

"My dog is Chicken Soup for the Soul because I have been blessed beyond my understanding with having her to help me through a loss of my dear sister-in-law. I was under so much stress I literally lost my hair, and without my Winnie to be there when I came home I think I would have sunk into a depression so deep it would have affected my whole life. Having to care for her and having her undivided love helped me to stay strong for myself and my family! She is an angel with fur!"

…and artist Rachel Tyler chosen at random.

I was so moved by everyone's responses.  It was almost impossible to decide.  But Linda's last line "She is an angel with fur!" really got to me.  Inspired by her quote, I set up a new Dog Art Today photo album.  I would love for you all to submit photos of your dogs so I can meet all your angels with fur.

Click here to submit your photo.  Everyone's dogs are welcome.   You don't have to have participated in the contest.

P.S. see more of Rachel Tyler's whimsical dog art at her website Pawsitive Art.

  • Timur Tsaku: Angel Dogs

Timur Tsaku was born and educated in Uzbekistan and now lives in Israel, and he is my new favorite dog artist.  I am completely captivated by his intricate black and white paintings flecked with gold and imbued with the Byzantine quality of his non-western influences.

Most of all, I love the spellbinding dog so prominent in many of his works.  This creature is the Haiya Kdusha, the Hebrew name for a holy being or angel.

I think every artist I've ever featured on Dog Art Today has tried to capture the spiritual quality of the angel dogs in our lives.   And now, thanks to Tsaku and his breathtaking work, we understand that there is a name for this holy being, Haiya Kdusha, and he has a history as ancient and profoundly important as the Old Testament.   Truly Awe-some!
