More dox-ZENs

dox-ZENs, works in progress by Moira McLaughlin, December 2013

I am working on a series of twelve dox-ZEN Sumi-e ink paintings, meditations on the Buddhist belief that the mind is an endless chain of three processes: craving, acting, and discontentment.

The paintings are also an exercise in detachment and handling imperfection, and are going to be part of a group show curated by Jane O’Hara in Boston this March entitled “Beasts of Burden.”  In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more about this multimedia exhibition that looks at our complex relationship with animals.

In the meantime visit my dox-ZEN Pinterest board to see my vision for the series.

I love these, Moira — and love the whole Buddhist tie-in. I wish I could make it to your show!

Me too. I don’t think I will be making the trip to Boston.
I’ll keep you posted if we get a West Coast venue.
    Thanks for your support.

how exciting….CONGRATS & GOOD LUCK! I grew up in NY and then Boston…went to Mass College of Art there for a bit before moving back to NY…..wonderful city, Boston…..and one of the most prestigious cities to exhibit in.
I loved your zen start earlier, juxtaposing the cut-outs with inks drawings, etc…..love the contrast…..YOU GO GIRL! xoxo

Thank you Evelyn. As you know it’s been a challenge to get back to work. This project has been all about working through that block. I just kept painting and painting. Over 40 of them. All are imperfect. But some are just right.
I went to Boston College and have fond memories of it. I probably won’t go back for the show. I feel very honored to be included.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
