Dog Walker 2010 by James Hart Dyke

I went to sleep early last night and missed the news that the world changed.  Osama Bin Laden is dead and buried

Dog Walker 2010 is from a series the British Intelligence agency MI6 commissioned James Hart Dyke to produce in honor of their centenary.  The artist had a year of unprecedented access to the world of international spies.   Reflecting on his experience, he said, "Although 90 per cent of their lives are ordinary, ten per cent is surreal and they pinch themselves about what’s happening to them. Many have done extraordinary things such as stopping terrorist attacks for which they can never be thanked publicly."

It seems appropriate to feature his work today in honor of all the men and women who secretly made yesterday's mission a success.

I think it's interesting that the painting the agents most identify with depicts a lonely hotel room…

Leave it to you for the perfect twist on yesterday’s news! So interesting — and the tone of those paintings is appropriately lonely and somber, no?

“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that”
