I know the Orientalists are not always considered cool. But I love the theatricality of Jean-Léon Gérôme and his dogs are spectacular.
This painting, A Bashi-Basouk and His Dog is one of the highlights of Sotheby's New York April 24, 2009 auction of 19th Century European Art Including Orientalist Paintings, Drawings and Sculptures.
