South Yuba River State Park Petition

Covered Bridge at the South Yuba State Park by Steve Fontanini, 1966

Our beloved South Yuba River and Malakoff Diggins are on the California State Parks closure list.  The river and the park are the soul of our community.  It would be a blow to our economy and our psyche if they closed.  Please, please, please (this is me begging) take a few seconds to sign this online petition asking Governor Jerry Brown to remove it from the list.

We need 5,000 signatures by January 12, 2012.  As of today we only have 787.

Thank you, Moira

Thank you Elizabeth. I keep meaning to tell you Nevada City has the first wheelchair accessible nature trail. It was a vision of one person. And dozens of volunteers over the years built it out of old mining flumes and bridges and now volunteers maintain it. They stood up at a recent town hall and announced that NOBODY was going to close it because it is independent of state funds and personnel. Totally a labor of love. It was truly mind-blowing.
Whenever I go to it I think it might be something Sophie might like to visit. Its called Independence Trail. Here is the link…
