See Spot Sell

Ads with dogs from the 1940s

Nancy Page is a graphic designer who needs help with her homework.  Actually, she’s doing fine on her own, but you might want to take a look at her research project because it’s fascinating.  For her MA in Advertising Design at Syracuse University, she is looking at dogs in advertising through the years to see “if and how our perceptions of dogs has changed over the years.”

She has collected all her examples on her website See Spot Sell, along with interviews from experts in the fields of dogs, design, and advertising.  I spent quite a while looking at the ads, trying to pick my favorites and couldn’t.  They are all compelling for different reasons, but what is most interesting is comparing the decades to each other, and I guess that’s the point.  Looking at dogs to see ourselves and how we have changed.

If you have any ads to contribute, email Nancy
.   See Spot Sell is still a work in progress.  Good luck!

I wish Henry and Gigi would get a job. Selling, whatever. They need to pay their vet bills. Now to see if this comment will actually post…
