Portrait of a Cartoonist as a Dog Owner

Cartoonist Joe Sacco thinks "the pet, needy and unproductive…ranks next to the child as creativity's greatest impediment."  That has not been my experience.  But I take his point.  Click on the image below to open it in a new window for greater clarity…

Very funny!! love the illustrations. I know not politically correct, but life is NOT a Utopic Norman Rockwell painting (love that pipe). Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to quickly lift my brush off the canvas when my dog comes running to tell me a squirrel is crossing the street. …and that guilt-inducing snack, so true! With all that, I adore my little guy.

I know, the snack image is especially hilarious. I call it playing me man on man when Darby is right under my foot as I open the refrigerator. He can be on the other side of the house sleeping, but he materializes like the Cheshire Cat when I go for a snack.

Looks like a Corgi. My Corgi causes me to take welcome breaks and helps me realize there are more important things in life than whatever I’m working on. I’m very happy about that.

Moira, I know what you mean. My little guy ‘Joe” just stares at the floor (why waste time looking up?) for that crumb to fall. …treats are serious business.
