Dawn After the Wreck by Joseph Mallord William Turner, circa 1841

We woke to tragic news of another mass murder in our country.  An appropriate day for a heartbroken dog.

That is truly a mournful scene- the solitary animal with the body language of anguish, railing at the sea, at God, for taking away what was so precious. Turner is a master. The painting is 99% seascape, but what we feel is the the small animal and it’s deep grief.
My family lives in Denver. This is shockingly tragic. It is such a moment of knowing how capricious life, and death, can be. It could so easily have been my nephews at that theater.

Beautifully put, Nancy. It is unbearable that this is happening again. But totally predictable.
What will it take for us to change?
