Darby Looking in Water with Little Person by Sabrina Cameron, 2012

A few weeks ago, my 5-year-old niece, Sabrina Cameron, came home from school with this drawing of Darby.   She said she was inspired by a story she heard.  My sister, Sheila, thinks it was Aesop’s fable about the dog and his reflection.  I wonder if it was Narcissus.  Either way, I wanted to share it today, on Darby’s birthday.

He would have been 18.  I miss him every day.  But it makes me smile (OK, and shed a few tears) that he continues to inspire great artists like Sabrina.

Happy Birthday, Darby.

So hard on the anniversaries, and holidays. And, well, everyday for a long time. Still good to see he is still inspiring art and artists.
    Be well.

It’s coming up to anniversary time for me too (Sunday)although Nell’s birthday is in April. Every day I miss her as much as – if not more than – the day before. Just come BACK already!
This drawing is just wonderful. What a treasure to see Darby’s sweet spirit in new places.
    Love to you.

People kept saying it would get easier. And I guess it does in terms of functioning and not being in a constant state of pain, but with the distance away from him in my life, there is a deeper sadness. Sending healing thoughts to you. Have a good cry on Sunday or a long walk. Or both. In honor of Nell.

Aaaaw, it will be a muted sadness, promise, sadness none-the-less. At least, that’s what I found, more than 2 years down the line. That drawing is really lovely!
