"Benefits" by Moira McLaughlin, 2008

I made this collage last year when I read an article about the creativity and unbridled joy that will be released when health care becomes a right to every American (will try to find the article).  It really crystallized how paralyzed we are by the fear of losing our health care.  And the compromises we make to keep it.

When I finished this piece, I saw that the rose cluster also could be interpreted as a cancer metastasizing in someone without access to health coverage.  Either way, I think it is obscene that our country has come to this.  And tonight, I feel like our President said it right.  It is not a political issue, it is a moral issue.  It is time.

I have to think of all the people who will become sick and perhaps die while the politicians drag their well insured feet and spread lies about health reform.
