A Old Pep Talk from Brad Zellar

Photographer Alec Soth’s ebay portrait auction raised $9,100 to help his friend Brad Zellar pay his medical bills.  On Wednesday, Brad posted Hold Out Hope: An Old Pep Talk on his blog.  It’s the kind of writing that makes you ache.  And want to do better.

And Brad’s post A Man Who Wins the Dog Lottery is a Lucky Man is one of the best essays about falling in dog love I have ever read.

Enjoy.

Lovely writer! The Lucky Man tribute is very touching and beautiful. These words from the Hope essay though, I must paste here, as they spoke to me as much as every word about the dog so I must quote him:
“Have you ever heard a bell ringing in a little valley town? It’s a lovely sound, but there is something mournful about it as well. But two bells, or all the bells in the valley ringing together at once? That is something else entirely. That is the music the human heart was designed to make. That is the definition of a joyful noise.”
