    Ed Ruscha, Woody, and the World’s Hottest Pepper by Lance Acord

    In honor of LACMA’s Fall 2012 Art + Film gala, honoring Ed Ruscha and Stanley Kubrick, filmmaker Lance Acord made a short film about Ed Ruscha.  His dog, Woody, features prominently, as does his interest in nature and gardening.

    You may recall my fondness for Ed Ruscha based not just on his dog art, but his most excellent business card.

    This film celebrates an artist and his muse.  Without dogs, there would be no art.

    The exhibition Ed Ruscha: Standard is on view at LACMA until January 21, 2013.

  • Zara Wood’s Darling Dog Drawings

    The Japanese design website PingMag is my favorite spot to visit when I’m looking for inspiration. Any words lost in translation are made up for by the dozens of photos they include with every article.

    They recently featured the work of London-based artist Zara Wood, a self-described doodler with a penchant for cardboard. A piece of used produce box is her canvas of choice. Luckily, though, some of her amazing works – including many dog drawings – have made it onto greeting cards. The off-centered text inside adds to their charm.

    Lulu (above) reads: “Lulu realized that her penchant for jewelry was bordering on the obsessive.”

    Terrance (below) reads: “Terence wondered how long he would pretend he didn’t speak English.”
