  • Wegman’s Fay in New Order Video

In response to yesterday’s post about the William Wegman: Fay exhibition at the Akron Art Museum, Dog Art Today reader and Evie’s mom, Jewel, left me a comment that Fay stars in New Order’s 1988 video for Blue Monday.  I love New Order.  Thanks, Jewel!

It's not to late to see William Wegman: Fay at the Allentown Art Museum in PA.  The show "celebrates the artistic partnership of Wegman and
his beloved canine muse, Fay Ray. For ten years (1986-1995), their
lives were creatively entwined, resulting in a brilliant body of photographic
work for which Wegman and Fay are especially known.
Their odyssey as partners in art and in life is explored in a rich array
    of photographs,
many of which have rarely or never been exhibited publicly."

Show runs until September 7, 2008.

Also, the museum is offering a special Dog Days Promotion through the end of August.  Visitors with admission receipts from the Allentown Art Museum receive $2.00 off the exhibition fee for Elliot Erwitt: Dog Dogs at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA.  Very cool.

See some of my favorite Elliot Erwitt photos here.

Grace Kelly with her Poodle Oliver

Sotheby's New York opens a Grace, Princess of Monaco Exhibition on October 15 that will feature some of her favorite dresses, jewelry and personal belongings, as well as photos, films and documents that capture the essence of her life.

I don't know if the following images will be included, so I decided to create my own Grace Kelly tribute featuring her beloved dogs.

Grace Kelly on board the Constitution on her way to Monaco for her wedding via Bayside Film Review.

Here is a video of Grace, her family and her wedding party on the Constitution. There are some darling shots of her and Oliver at the end.

I wanted to include this ITN Souce video (click on clip #6), but it cost $20 a second to embed it. View it for free on their site. Watch closely at the end and you'll see Grace Kelly walking down the gangway to meet her prince and she's carrying her Poodle. Prince Rainier kindly picks up the leash she is dragging behind her and escorts her to the car. It's the only time I've ever seen Grace Kelly with a single thing out of place and I think it makes her so endearing — holding on to her dog for security as she faces her new life — and then she ominously disappears into the fortress-like castle.

And finally, for your listening pleasure, my new music crush, Mika, singing "Grace Kelly." Enjoy!

If you'd like to view Mika on YouTube on a larger screen and get the full effect click here. P.S. I've combed several trivia sites and couldn't find the name of Grace Kelly's Weimaraner. I did discover it was a wedding gift. If anyone knows its name and whom it was from, let me know.

10.19.07 Update: As if you needed another reason to love Grace Kelly, Andrew of GraceKellyOnline.com sent me this article by the New York Daily News' Gina Salamone. It includes this photo of Kelly with her Great Dane.

  • William Wegman: From Maine Turnpikes to The Met

    Hanselandgretel

Famed Weimaraner lover and artist, William Wegman, must have had an exciting week. On Wednesday, the Maine Turnpike Authority announced they’ve chosen his artwork to adorn three travel plazas on the highway, two in Kennebunk and one in West Gardiner. Then, last night, a series of four Polaroids, including a triptych of his dogs dressed in Hansel and Gretel costumes from next year’s Englbert Humberdink’s opera, were sold for $50,000 at The Metropolitan Opera’s “Art for Opera” event. Visit the artist’s Wegman World Website to pick up a book, t-shirt or print featuring his funny, strange, and enduringly popular work.
