  • The Pride of Columbus Tobacco Label

    The_pride_of_columbus_tobacco_label

So many things offend in this 1866 tobacco label: the native American genuflecting to an exalted Christopher Columbus, a dog, three monkeys, and a rabbit smoking tobacco in a tree branch, "pride" in one of the deadliest crops known to man.  But, it is reaffirming that attitudes and policies can change.  And they do. It just may take 100 years.

    Have a nice day off.

    Rusty by Kimberly Kelly Santini

Congratulations Kimberly Kelly Santini, this year's winner of the Mutt Lynch Winery – Dog Art Today Wine Label Contest. Winemaker, Brenda Lynch, label designer, Rae Huestis, and I are thrilled that this soulful piece will grace the bottle of an exclusive bottle of red to be released at this year's Dog Days of Summer event in Healdsburg, Sonoma, CA on August 14, 2010.  The wine will simply be called "Rusty" and 10% of proceeds will benefit the SFPCA.

Kimberly will win a case of wine, tickets to the event, and a profile on Dog Art Today.  We love "Rusty" and can't wait to taste his namesake.  Thank you again, to all the artists who entered.   We look forward to seeing you next year.

  • Vinum Cellars’s Pets 2005

    Petslabel

In vintner jargon Pets is short for Petite Sirah. So when it came time name this vintage, Vinum Cellars’s owners Chris Condos and Richard Bruno dedicated it to their friend, grape grower Ken Wilson and his dog Tanker. And they christened it Pets.

I love the bold red and black design of this label. It has the feel of a classic Italian movie poster. The wine’s description is wonderful too…”Dark colored, long legged and bold, we feel this wine has the potential of becoming your best friend.” Just like your favorite pet.

Order a bottle ($14.00) and toast the dog days of summer. (A portion of the profits from this wine’s sales are donated to the San Francisco SPCA).
