  • Video: Jack-o-Lantern Scares Dog…too funny!

Don’t forget that Halloween can be very scary for the little ones…

Clip is especially funny since the “fraidy cat” pup is named Beast. Belle is the sweet gal who comes to his rescue. Both are Chihuahua Dachshund mixes. I love the close up shot of them at the end. Adorable!

This is one version of his character.

Not sure? What about this version…

    If you guessed…

    Russell-crowe-gladiator

    …you’re right!

Actually, these costumes were originally made by my friend Meredith and me for a trailer spoof I was making on Gladiator when it came out in 2000. Alas, I lost my financing and never finished it. Darby was such a good sport about shooting and so was his cousin, Dan (may be rest in peace), who played the Emperor…

Hope you and your pups have a very Happy Halloween!

P.S. EternallyCool.net, my new favorite website about coolness in the Eternal City (Rome), reports:

Italian archeologists have discovered the tomb of the ancient Roman hero said to have inspired the character played by Russell Crowe in the film ‘Gladiator’.

Daniela Rossi, a Rome archeologist, said the discovery of the monumental marble tomb of Marcus Nonius Macrinus, including a large inscription bearing his name, was “an exceptional find”. She said it was “the most important ancient Roman monument to come to light for twenty or thirty years”. (read more)

  • Schulz and Peanuts A Biography by David Michaelis

    Charles_schulz_biography

    David Michaelis’s 655-page, seven-years-in-
the-making biography of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz will be released next Tuesday.  Sharon Begley of Newsweek warns readers that, "anyone expecting a Schulz in ‘happiness is a warm puppy’ mode will likely be disappointed."  It seems that although Schulz reached the pinnacle of success, he saw himself as a bullied, ordinary, unhappy boy until the end.

He also never hugged his five children, didn’t kiss his wife hello, and asked his second wife to marry him while still married to his first.  Good grief!

  • Angry’s Skeleton Dog Lamp

    (On)

Yesterday someone was searching my blog for Halloween dog art.  So today I’m featuring this super-fun dog lamp that lights up like an x-ray when you plug it in. I discovered it on the excellent snobby dog blog, PupStyle.  It’s from the Dublin design firm Angry, whose whimsical products certainly don’t live up to their heated name.  I mean that in a good way : )
