Ta daaaa! Coming in at number 1 on the most popular dog breed list is the Labrador Retriever. This seems exactly right as Chocolate, White, Yellow and Black Labs pop up everywhere in our lives and our culture these days. In LA they would be the Ford Explorer of dogs; sporty, nice looking, a little large for city-life, and ubiquitous. Also, super sweet. Here are some gift ideas for all the Lab lovers you know.

The other day my mother was talking about being an art teacher – her career before marriage. She said the challenge was to teach creativity, not just have her students follow instructions. “I tried not to have any copy work,” she said. “Mostly creative projects. I tried to make art relevant to future life. Putting together clothes, painting a house, making a garden, designing a room, etc. Even choosing a dog.” (Like her fabulously talented dog Minnie.)
I thought how lucky I am to have a mom like this…
…one who taught me, showed me, creativity as a way of life.
