  • The Perfect Evening: Dalí, Dog Art, and Cheese (oh…and some red wine too)

Last night my friend Allison and I went to LACMA’s Dalí Painting and Film Exhibit. It was truly fascinating to see the famous Surrealist’s work in the context of his infatuation with Hollywood. The most mind-blowing treasure we saw was Destino. It’s a cartoon collaboration between Dalí and Walt Disney begun in 1945 but never completed until 2003 after Roy Disney discovered the cancelled project and produced it with the help of 25 animators working from Dalí’s storyboards. We just loved it and decided that it makes Fantasia look downright pedestrian. Here is a trailer for it to give you a taste…

Of course I was on the look out for some Dalí dog art and was not disappointed.

We also watched the 1928 film Un Chien Andalou by Dalí and Luis Buñuel. But aside from the title, there is no dog in it. I’m researching why and will let you know.

I have more dog art to share from the evening and details about the wine and cheese, but first I need to take a little nap. It was a late night : )
