Headstand on Pole by Maciej Urbaniec

Last June, after I featured Cyrk Contemporary Posters on Dog Art Today, company owner Donald Mayer generously allowed me to pick out one for myself.  After some excruciating deliberations.  I chose Headstand on Pole by Maciej Urbaniec.  Yes, he was shocked too that I didn't pick a dog poster.

When this came in the mail, I was completely blown away.  As I said to Donald, "It is so beautiful I could cry."

Thank you so much.  I just adore it!

Here are some more Cyrk Polish poster dogs to round out my day of circus themed art.

  • Oops! Top Dog Breed List Revised!

    Ashamed_dog_2

OK, now I know how the “Gray Lady” feels when she’s made a mistake…foolish. I spent the last 10 days counting down the most popular dog breeds in the U.S. only to realize this morning that I was working from an outdated list. So, after a momentary lapse in courage when I debated sweeping the whole incident under the virtual rug of the blogosphere, I decided to come clean and make a correction. Truth be told, the list wasn’t jibing with my perception anyway. I knew Yorkie’s were higher than 5th on the list. They’re actually 2nd! Here is the new rankng according to recent AKC dog registration statistics:

    1. Labrador Retrievers
    2. Yorkshire Terriers
    3. German Shepherds
    4. Golden Retrievers
    5. Beagles
    6. Dachshunds
    7. Boxers
    8. Poodles
    9. Shih Tzu
    10. Miniature Schnauzers

    This is my old list:

    1. Labrador Retrievers
    2. Golden Retrievers
    3. German Shepherds
    4. Beagles
    5. Yorkshire Terriers
    6. Dachshunds
    7. Boxers
    8. Poodles
    9. Shih Tzu
    10. Chihuahua

As you can see, the poor Chihuahuas lost their spot to Miniature Schnauzers, who I owe a gift list and an apology. I take full responsibility for this error and deeply regret any harm I have caused to the above mentioned breeds or their owners.

I’ve reorganized the countdown below in the correct order, and I’ve added Miniature Schnauzers to the number 10 spot.

  • Beagle Gifts

Beagles are the 5th most popular dog breed in the U.S. I think it’s because many Beagle owners feel they are like Lay’s Potato Chips, you can’t have just one. Here are my recommendations for excellent holiday gifts for the Beagle pack leader in your life.

    Ron_burns_annie

Sweet Annie pop art print from dog artist Ron Burns.

    Beagle_sculpture

Brett Rhodes Neal’s Beagle in Boots is one of my favorite pieces ever featured on Dog Art Today. At the time, I was blown away by his idea of making a painting of his Beagle sculpture covered in Picassos. But now, he’s outdone himself. Look closely at the sculpture seen above. It is a Picasso Beagle with a pop art — looks like a Lichtenstein — waistcoat! I love his mind and his work. See more here.

    Beagle_sweatshirt

Property of my Beagle’s hooded sweatshirt. Whether you’re the coach or just part of Team Beagle, this design on a t-shirt, sweatshirt of tank top is perfect.

    Beagle_necklace

Beagle glass pendant. Hand made at Frums Glass Managerie and available on Etsy.

Snoopy is perhaps the most famous Beagle ever. Seen here on a Year of the Beagle long-sleeved t-shirt.
