I think it might be good for a couple to get a dog before having a child. Responsibility is irrevocably force upon you, and your heart opens in new unimaginable ways. For my dad, the opposite worked too. Raising four girls was great training for owning a dog.

Luckily my dad’s girls were as exceptionally talented and bright as his dog Minnie. Otherwise he might be outsmarted 100% of the time and not just 50/50. And he never would have had patience to teach her over two dozen tricks. Like this one…
