This year marks the 15th anniversary of the wildly popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series. One of their new titles, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Loving Our Dogs by Jack Canfield & Mark Victor Hansen, features 101 of the best stories illustrating how dogs are good for the body an soul. Sections include “I Can’t Believe My Dog Did That,” “Bringing Out the Best in Us,” “Pets Have Pets Too,” and “Canine Matchmakers.” All are true tales of the humorous and life-altering impact our dogs have on our lives.

Simon and Schuster has kindly given me two copies of Loving Our Dogs to give away to my readers.

My Sugar Plum the 50 lb fuzzy furry happy dog makes me laugh and she gives me a reason to get out of bed every day.
Before she left an enormous canyon in my life, my home and my heart by leaving for the Rainbow Bridge, Miss Gabby gave me a new appreciation for the love between a doggy family member and all of her owned people.
My daughter’s pack of dogs:
Bad Dog reminds me how hilarious it is to be loved by a Boxer who is one huge muscled lovable baby that slimes ya while being estatic you are not dead and that you came to see him.
Miss Candy the 30 or so lb grayhound mix LOVES dog treat presents from Grandma at Christmas but always needs to be noticed and pampered by Grandma on every visit no matter that she has razor-sharp doggie nails that go right thru t-shirts to leave bleeding claw mark brands on arms tied directly to the heart strings.
Chloe and Sofie, 50 lbs each of happy, exuberant, lovable and not quite a year old [almost still puppies] truly make one believe that bouncing off Grandma’s forehead, nose and glasses every visit in random rhythm bursts are new sport activities that will earn them Gold Medal Awards in the very near future.

My dog and my daughter’s dogs love me without any conditions … every day or nite … always … no matter what and being loved by a dog … life just does not ever get any better than that!

“My dog is chicken soup for the soul because…” he is the first dog I have ever known to giggle and laugh. He will roll around on his back, throwing his head from side to side with mouth open and audible, breathy giggles come out. He laughs and he makes me laugh.

they makes any hard day at work, a great one the second I walk in the front door at home and see the smiles (yes smiles) on my dachshunds faces. They greet me with unconditional kisses and it makes every tough day worth living.. :o)

No matter my grumpy pms moments, my teary emotional nights or giggling through comedies we watch together on the sofa at night..shes always there for me. My dog is Chicken Soup for the Soul because I have been Blessed beyond my understanding with having her to help me through a loss of my dear sister-in-law.I was under so much stress I literly lost my hair and without my Winnie to be there when came home I think I would have sunk into a depression so deep it would have affected my whole life.Having to care for her and having her undivided love helped me to stay strong for myself and my family! She is an angel with fur!

My dog is chicken soup for the soul because he is the most loyal dog in the world. He is also the funniest. He thinks he is a cat. A 60 lb. cat. He wants to sit on our lap like the cats. He wants to climb on the table and couch and bed like they do. But, even though he has a healthy respect for the cats, he helps discipline them on occasion with a big WOOF. This sends them scurrying on their way — for about 30 seconds. But it distracts them from whatever it was they were doing that they shouldn’t have been doing! Besides, he loves chicken soup — if he can eat it, he loves it!

My dog Maeby is chicken soup for the soul because she’s endured being hit by a car in Mexico without any medical care, has fended for herself alone on the streets, and has endured an invasive knee surgery that required 16 weeks of downtime, yet still lives life with such radiant joy, happiness, and love. I adore her!

My dog is chicken soup for my soul because when my husband left me I didn’t think I could go on with life any more. I had so many down moments. But my dog sympathized with me. His big brown eyes would look at me while I cried and felt worthless. I don’t know how to explain it but he knew when to give me my space and just sit beside me and keep my lap warm. I truly believe he got my through the worst time of my life because of the looks in his big brown eyes. The look was please don’t leave me, I need you to take care of me and I love you no matter what happens. Without him I may have done something very stupid in my life and I believe because of him I got through it. I knew I had a responsibility to take care of him and that to do that I had to take care of myself. I owe getting through that tough time to my dog. I now have found happiness again and remarried someone very special who loves me and my dog! Life is good!
