  • Sterling Silver Nose Print Necklace

Isn't your dog's nose the best?  Always leading the way, waking you up with a cold wet poke, or making you laugh with a feather or a leaf stuck to it.  That's why I think these sterling silver custom dog necklaces from rockmyworldinc are so clever.  The designers send you a modeling kit and you take an impression of your dog's nose.  It sounds tricky but it only takes a few seconds.  Then they make a custom pendant from the mold and engrave it on the back, like this…

So sweet, and beautifully crafted.  And like each dog's nose, thoroughly original.

  • Sculpted Jewelry by Tory Herford

    Dog_jewelry_1

    Three Dogs Ring

Artist Tory Herford gives customers a word of warning on her Etsy site, "I consider myself a sculptor- not a jeweler. If you like dainty jewelry, you won't find it here!"  I like her definitiveness, and that her work really speaks for itself.  Bold, heavy pieces that meld whimsy with elegance are her specialty, along with inspiration from Asia and nature.

Her exquisite dog-themed jewelry is created from hand-casting old buttons with wax and heavy sterling silver, giving them a modern feel with a nod to traditional 19th century dog art.  Tory says she grew up obsessed with the Natural History Museum.  As a child, she would refuse to leave.  Today, although she still is fascinated with antiquities and treasures of ancient cultures, as an artist, she has figured out how to make her own natural wonders, wonders you can own.

  • Sterling Silver Dog Art Jewelry by Pen Andrishok

    3_dog_golden_retriever_pin

Irish Setter in the Vines Pin

Pen Andrishok received her MFA from the University of Iowa and began her career creating conceptual art dealing with women and AIDS.  Along the way, she began rescuing Golden Retrievers.  Then, a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina decimated New Orleans, a starving Goldie named Mardi found his way to a rescue organization and ultimately Andrishok's home and her devotion to rescue dogs grew more profound.  Around the same time, Andrishok became interested in silversmithing and fell in love with it.  This year, she decided to combine her two passions, rescuing dogs and silversmithing, and and her dog art jewelry line, 3 Dog Lookout, was born.

I don't feature a lot of dog art jewelry because I usually find it too cutesy for my taste.  But Andrishok gives her pieces a sophistication and polish (in both senses of the word) that I adore.  She also works to keep her prices for the pendants under $100, incredibly reasonable for custom hand sawn and soldered sterling silver jewelry (the cuffs and pins are more).  And she sweetens the deal by donating 10% of sales to rescue dog organizations.  Beautiful art for a worthy cause.  Gorgeous!
