Julien Chung’s Dogs

Montreal based artist, Julien Chung, started illustrating animal characters ten years ago and never looked back.  At first, he was inspired by his family's Samoyed, charmed by her fox-like features.  Then, he created a cartoon strip about animals running a circus called Maskarade, and Bob the dog quickly became a favorite, with a place of honor on his first commercial design, a beer glass from Ritzenhoff.

Now, Chung's dogs (and other creatures) appear on toys, prints, giftware, and home furnishings.  I love their whimsical style and vibrant colors.  To me his work is Charley Harper meets Tintin.

Chung's influences include Canadian-Italian poster artist, Vittorio, Milton Glaser, Charles Schulz, and British postage stamps.  But there is no mistaking that he is a true original.
