Sleeping Dogs

I've been a big fan of Washington-based artist Jaime Ellsworth since she almost won the 2011 Mutt Lynch – Dog Art Today Wine Label Contest. I still think her graphic black, white, and red entry would make an awesome wine label.

Her new series of dog artworks push her exploration of contrasts and silouhettes, and explore her daily observations, personal relationships, and the passage of time.  They are being featured in the upcoming exhibition, The Dog Show: Loving Our 4 Legged Friends, at WaterWorks Gallery on San Juan Island, June 22 – July 13, 2013.  There's an opening reception and discussion this Saturday at 2pm.   Fellow dog artist, sculptor Barbara Duzan, will also be discussing her work.

Here are my picks of the litter.

These are lovely. The concern for composition, color, and meaning makes these more than “dog paintings”. Very nice.

I like it very, very much. despite the all “dogiloneness” these are truly good paintings, concerning colours, composition, story, atmosphere and the conciousness that arist was able to give into it
