Charley Harper’s Dogs

Patrick of the wonderful blog, Dog Opus, has a terrific post in memory of the late graphic designer Charley Harper who passed away this June at the age of 84. The Cincinnati-based artist was known for his unique, precise style that he called minimal realism. Dogs were among his favorite subjects. I picked out a few to enjoy here. I think they’re simply magnificent!

The Cincinnati Museum of Art is currently showing Minimal Realism: Charley and Edie Harper, 1940-1960. The exhibition runs until October 21, 2007.

And…brace yourself…I’m using the “C” word…Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life edited by Todd Oldham would make a wonderful Christmas gift for any animal, art, or design lover. (Cover pictured below.)

Me too, Linda. And you can see his influence in so much of today’s art + design — hints of pop-surrealism.
